last days in london

hammered out on October 26, 2008 at 10:11PM

I woke up rather late this morning so I decided to leave Rothko to his colorblocks and head down to the pub to watch the football match. It was more fun than I expected to watch middle aged men brought to tears by a penalty kick. I managed to remain reserved, even with my past and very well-known habit of screaming obscenities and whipping myself into a near heart attack whenever teams I love and/or hate are playing. I just happen to hate Chelsea with the fire of a thousand suns and they just happened to lose. So I happily sat and sipped my wonderfully room-temperature cider and watched those around collapse in anguish. My Yank friend and I decided to go shopping and on a whim we went to see Buckingham Palace at night. It was unexpectedly gorgeous. The whole of London, actually, seems a bit more exciting at night. This is my last night in London, as I'm off to Southampton to see some old friends tomorrow, and I wish I had budgeted a bit more time to spend here. It's the kind of city I really enjoy. It's extraordinarily diverse-not only in its population but also in its amazing array of neighborhoods. If I wasn't so broke, I'd love to live in a city like this. I can tell I will come back here soon.
