lonely planet magazine?

hammered out on February 16, 2009 at 08:35PM

What!? Lonely Planet has started a magazine. I have fond memories of good ol' LP. Like clutching Australia and New Zealand nervously upon landing in my new home of Western Australia and wondering "do I really have to memorize the sizes of beer glasses?" Some of the features include a "rediscovering Paris" guide for those of us who are keen to avoid the tourist trap that is central Paris. They talk a lot about one of my favorite neighborhoods by the Canal St. Martin and the North African enclave around there.

It's also got some stuff about how Britain is best in the winter. I AGREE. I love visiting places in the winter, I think you get the best idea of what it would be like to live there, not just be a tourist. I always feel strange hitting up a place in the usual fashion, it feels like a one night stand. You just come at it with the quickness and then bounce back on your plane with nothing to show for it but some cheap made in China souvenir.
